We recognize the need to make feminine hygiene products available to high school students.  A startling 1 in every 20 female students do not have access to feminine hygiene products.  It could be because….

  • First experience with menstruating and you weren’t prepared
  • Forgot to bring feminine products with you
  • You ran out of products at home
  • Simply do not have access to feminine products

We reached out to the community for help in this effort. It was so successful that we were asked to present our campaign during a pep assembly to students in all grade levels. It was presented on Friday, April 23, 2021. Due to the pandemic, we resented the presentation twice to allow for social distancing. We addressed a need that normally carries an awkward stigma in an open and respectable way. Those in attendance were given a “Discreet Bag.” Students stated, “This was very helpful” and “Thank you for doing this.”

We showed the students that WE (their school, their community, and people they’ve never met) care about their well-being and we collected enough products to support students the entire 2021-2022 school year.

SERVICE PROJECT PERFORMED BY  CANDIDATES FOR MEMBERSHIP

Once the candidates accepted the invitation to become members of the South Bend Area (IN) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, they got busy and join together to select a service project as a requirement for membership.

After conferring with Membership Chair, Naomi Adams, and her committee, they chose the Health and Human Services and Services to Youth facets to base their project. They chose Riley. High School to start their project. Recognizing the personal needs of young ladies for feminine hygiene, they started a community campaign to collect these personal items in order to stock Riley’s nursing office with these supplies. This was a vital need since the nurse was supplying these items from her personal finances.

It was a huge success. The young ladies and the staff was very appreciative of these candidates efforts. It is hoped that this effort can be continued into others schools in the community. Their PowerPoint presentation was very impressive.

Welcome to our newest members, inducted into the South Bend Area (IN) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated in June 2021
